StagWare is the open-source imprint of developer Stefan Hirschmann, recognized in Windows circles for a single, highly specialized utility: NoteBook FanControl (NBFC). Written in C# and licensed under GPL-3.0, NBFC turns the embedded controller (EC) found in most laptops into a fully programmable fan curve engine. Instead of relying on vendor-supplied firmware that often keeps fans noisy or idle too long, the software injects its own temperature–speed tables directly into the EC registers, giving users granular, per-degree control over cooling behavior. A XML-based configuration repository already holds more than six hundred ready-made profiles for models from Acer, ASUS, Dell, HP, Lenovo, MSI, Toshiba and others, while an in-app editor lets tinkerers build custom curves, hysteresis values and trip-point offsets. Because the program runs as a lightweight background service, settings persist across sleep, hibernation and reboot without further intervention, making it popular with gamers, audio producers and office workers who need quieter operation or extra cooling headroom during sustained loads. The same codebase compiles on Linux through Mono, so dual-boot setups can share a single configuration. Although development is sporadic, community pull requests keep new laptop generations supported, and the transparent GPL model has spawned several GUI forks that add temperature graphs or system-tray applets. All StagWare software, including the latest signed build of NoteBook FanControl, is available free of charge on get.nero.com, where downloads are delivered through trusted Windows package sources such as winget, always fetch the newest release, and can be queued for batch installation alongside other applications.
